21st Century education is bold, path-breaking and flexible, creative and challenging. It addresses a rapidly changing world filled with fantastic new problems as well as new possibilities.
Today's education finds the need to focus on addressing the whole child and so the curriculum adapts itself to include the development of important life skill such as self-awarness, team building, critical thinking, problem solving, effective oral and written communication, curiosity, creativity and imagination as well as entrepreneurship. In a bid towards this, our education systems need to move from being text book drawn to being research driven, from a passive learning environment to active learning engagements, from related classrooms and four walls to outdoor education.
The journey of learning begins with parents and teachers in leadership and mentioning roles, who are shaping consciously and unconsciously, the destinies of children around them. "Teachers must do exactly what a mother should do-bond with the children and gain their attention." School teachers are playing an equally contributing children, from a primary role as a dispenser of knowledge to an orchestrator of learning and helping students turn information into knowledge, gradually into wisdom.
Parental obligations extend far beyond mere material provision, discipline and control of children. Parental attitude, behavior, personalities and conflicts can entirely shape and influence the personality development of children and their psychological stability. Authoritarianism, lack of a loving home environment and excessive discipline can conduce to the development of personalities. The onus of education and personal development of the nation's children is incrementally devolving upon not only schools, college and teachers, but also on our parents' community. They need to pay adequate attention to the development of their child's ability to relate harmoniously with others through deliberate and conscious prompting. They must teach the children social skills, appropriate attitude to work, attitude of gratitude, compassion and help them in cultivating the ability to accommodate the needs and emotions of others.
Let us involves as reflective practitioners conscious of our role to maximize student learning and develop compassionate, knowledgeable and confident citizens, Involvement breeds confidence, commitment, ownership and dignity and can result in raising a wide range of educational standards as well as creating a unique culture of excellence. Everything about a school needs to focus on students, providing them with the competence and self-confidence, empathy and resourcefulness, learning with dignity and development of each child at the heart.
